A meeting of the programme committee of the program "Europe for Citizens" was held in Brussels on 12 June 2017. Among the meeting participants were the representatives of the majority of the countries participating in the Program, as well as representatives of the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs, the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and other relevant EU institutions. On behalf of the Office for Cooperation with Civil Society, Marina Tadic participated in the meeting.
Key topics of the meeting were: work program for 2018, report on the activities in 2016, results achieved within the first call for proposals in 2017, as well as the results of the mid-term evaluation of the programme.
Minor changes in the formulation of the programme priorities have been introduced into the work program for 2018, while the biggest change relates to the inclusion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 in the priorities under the Chapter 2.
The work program also contains basic information on the call for operating grants, or structural support for organizations for the period 2018-2020. The announcement of this call is expected during the autumn of this year, and special guidelines for submitting proposals will be published. The Office is planning to organize special promotional events dedicated to this call. Currently, Serbia has one operating grant beneficiary - Belgrade Open School.
One of the meeting topics also was a significant new initiative of the European Commission - the European Solidarity Corps. This volunteer base already includes 30,000 registered people from a large number of European countries. The EFC programme envisages the possibility of participation of the volunteers from this base within the European Remembrance and Civil Society Projects Measure. Also, the participation of volunteers from this database is included among the criteria for selecting EFC projects. However, the participation of volunteers from this base is not mandatory when selecting projects, but provides additional points. On the other hand, the engagement of the volunteer does not provide additional funds for the implementation of the project. Since the Republic of Serbia is not a member of this initiative, our citizens cannot register for the base, but projects with Serbian applicants can include ESC volunteers.
