On December 12th in the National Library of Smederevo, which is a member of the EUteka library network, a panel dedicated to the European Year of Cultural Heritage was held. The EU programmes Europe for Citizens and Creative Europe were presented, with special emphasis on the role of the Smederevo Fortress as a part of the Serbian but also European cultural heritage and its potential in the development of this city.
The guests of the event were representatives of cultural institutions from Smederevo - Cultural Center, Institute for the Protection of Monuments, Museum, Historical Archives, Public Company "Smederevo Fortress", associations of citizens and other organizations that are involved in the production of cultural content.
On behalf of the Office for Cooperation with Civil Society, Marina Tadić presented the program "Europe for Citizens", as well as the possibilities for applying within this program. A good example of a successful project funded through this program is the project "Escalation in the Holocaust" of the Historical Archives of Belgrade, one of the results of which is the creation of a database of detainees from the concentration camp at Sajmište.
Milan Djordjevic, Manager of the Creative Europe Desk Serbia, outlined the basic characteristics of the Creative Europe program and informed the audience about the current call dedicated to the European cooperation. He emphasized that about 40 cultural institutions and civil society organizations from Serbia have successfully implemented 72 projects within this programme.
