A presentation of the Europe for Citizens Program held in Belgrade

On February 6, 2018, the Office for Cooperation with Civil Society of the Government of the Republic of Serbia held the third presentation of the Europe for Citizens Program in the current year, attended by over 30 representatives of civil society organizations, local self-government units, cultural and educational institutions from 17 municipalities and cities throughout Serbia.

While opening the meeting, Žarko Stepanović, acting director of the Office, emphasized that the special significance of this program is reflected in the fact that participation in it enables different participants from Serbia to collaborate, network and exchange experiences and opinions with program participants from other countries throughout Europe. "Through pre-accession funds and other EU programs such as this, which are available to users from our country, it is primarily possible to strengthen capacities and prepare for the use of structural funds that will become available to Serbia with EU membership. Through the Europe for Citizens Program participants empowered for joint action can respond to various social issues that are of equal importance to both our country and many countries that are already EU members" stressed Stepanovic and emphasized that the Office, as the contact point for the Program in Serbia, will mark 5 years of successful participation in May this year with approved projects with leads from Serbia in total value of more than 1.4 million euros.

Sanja Atanasković Opačić, the head of the Group for International Cooperation and European Integration in the Office for Cooperation with Civil Society, introduced to the participants the structure, goals and priorities of the Program, while the representatives of Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation and Libero from the Belgrade, "Local Democracy Center" from Subotica and the Municipality of Senta presented projects and shared with other participants their own experience in applying and implementing the projects approved through the Europe for Citizens Program.
